About Zakat — Islamic Guidelines

Nisab: Zakat is obligatory when your net wealth equals or exceeds the Nisab threshold maintained for one full lunar year (Hawl). The silver nisab (612.36g) is more commonly used by scholars today as it benefits the poor.

Rate: Zakat is exactly 2.5% (1/40th) of your net zakatable wealth.

What is Zakatable: Cash, bank balances, gold/silver, business inventory, investments, property bought for resale, and debts owed to you.

What is NOT Zakatable: Personal home, personal car, personal jewelry used regularly (Hanafi: jewelry worn by women is exempt), tools of trade, household items.
